Clinton In Mass. For Markey Rally

Former President Bill Clinton is coming to Massachusetts to campaign for Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Edward Markey.

Clinton is scheduled to attend a rally with Markey on Saturday evening at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Sen. Elizabeth Warren is also expected to attend.

Markey, dean of the state's congressional delegation, faces Republican Gabriel Gomez in the June 25 special election to fill the Senate seat left vacant when John Kerry became Secretary of State.

Clinton, still a popular figure in the Democratic Party, is among a list of high-profile Democrats lending their support to Markey. President Barack Obama stumped for him Wednesday.

Democrats have vowed to avoid a repeat of 2010, when Republican Scott Brown unexpectedly beat Attorney General Martha Coakley in the special election to replace the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. Democrats won it back when Warren defeated Brown in November.

Gomez, a businessman and Navy SEAL, was a political unknown until he won an April 30 GOP primary against two other candidates. On Saturday afternoon, he held what he called a Latino Town Hall in Southbridge, one of a series of town halls he plans leading up to Election Day.

A Gomez spokesman said the candidate addressed a crowd of about 50 people for around an hour, answering questions in both English and Spanish.

"Every day I travel across Massachusetts talking with families, business owners and voters who are sick and tired of Washington politicians and are looking for someone to stand up to both parties and clean up the mess they made," Gomez previously said in a statement announcing the town halls.

This program aired on June 15, 2013. The audio for this program is not available.
