Flash Flood Warning In Effect

A flash flood warning has been extended for parts of Massachusetts until 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service in Taunton issued a flash flood warning for southeastern Middlesex County, Suffolk County and northern Norfolk County until Sunday afternoon.

A warning for southeastern Hampden County and southwestern Worcester County was issued until 4:45 p.m. but was canceled the weather service reports heavy rain ended shortly before 3 p.m.

Heavy rain in the Boston area and parts of Metro West caused traffic problems.

Route 128 was closed in both directions near Route 9, according to State Police.

Weather spotters reported numerous highway and road closures due to water inundating the roadway, with several cars stuck in flood waters.

Flooding also caused closures on Route 128 near highland avenue in Needham.

Wellesley Police report many flooded roads and Framingham Police report vehicles stuck in flash floods.

The National Weather Service issued an airport weather warning for ground operations at Boston’s Logan Airport.

Heavy lightning is also reported throughout the area.
