The Greater Boston Food Bank is marking a sobering milestone. Since its founding 32 years ago, the organization has now put more than 500 million pounds of food into the hands of the needy.

The largest hunger-relief organization in New England, the Greater Boston Food Bank serves 190 communities in eastern Massachusetts. It operates out of a cavernous 117,000-square-foot facility in Boston. That's where we met with CEO Catherine D'Amato, who says she's seen an uptick in demand.

This program aired on September 12, 2013.
