With Glitchy Common App, Some Boston Colleges Extend Early Deadline

BOSTON — Some Boston-area universities are extending their early application deadline and urging prospective students to double-check due dates because of ongoing glitches with the Common Application.

A range of technical problems started when this year’s crop of Common Apps became available in August.

In response, Wellesley and several other area colleges have extended the deadline for early applications beyond the typical Nov. 1 due date.

Boston University has extended the deadline two weeks, according to spokesman Colin Riley.

“We know that the two week period will be sufficient for every student who wants to apply early to Boston University,” Riley said.

Harvard, Northeastern and Boston College have not extended the deadline.

In a statement, BC said it has seen progress in taking care of the glitches so school administrators are prepared to read applications the first week of November.
