A Boston man and his 16-year-old son were both charged with murder Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in South Boston on Sunday.

Angel Sanchez, 16, and his father, Elias Sanchez, 43, were both ordered held without bail at separate arraignments Monday, the Suffolk County district attorney's office said.

Though Angel Sanchez is a juvenile, he was identified because he is charged with murder.

According to the DA's office, the victim, 29-year-old Edwin Santos, was standing in front of a Dorchester Street market with a female friend just before 5 p.m. Sunday when Elias Sanchez approached and began assaulting him "with a club or baton." Then, the DA's office said, Angel Sanchez joined in, stabbing Santos repeatedly.

A third man, whose identity is under investigation, also allegedly joined the attack. That man also stabbed Santos, authorities believe.

Santos died of blunt trauma and stab wounds, the DA's office said.

Elias Sanchez suffered a stab wound in the altercation, allegedly from Santos' female friend, and he was arraigned at Boston Medical Center. The female friend is not facing charges.

The Sanchezes are due back in South Boston District Court on Dec. 18.

This program aired on November 18, 2013. The audio for this program is not available.
