Mass. Gets Snowy Start To The Week

Massachusetts residents woke up Monday morning to a light covering of snow across much of the state.

Most parts of the state received anywhere from a dusting to about an inch. And although most major roads were treated with salt and sand, police warned drivers to be careful on secondary roads when heading to work on Monday morning.

The light snow was expected to turn over to rain and freezing rain as the day progressed, with temperatures reaching a high of about 40 degrees.

Several school districts in central and western Massachusetts announced delayed openings, with school closings at a minimum.Forecast for the week ahead from meteorologist David Epstein:

Monday: Snow mixing with sleet and freezing rain this morning. There will be some mixed precipitation or light rain during the late morning across northern areas of Worcester county. Mixed rain and snow quickly becoming all rain across Cape Cod and the Islands. Highs in the 30s to lower 40s around Boston, but 45-50 from Hyannis to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

Monday night: Cloudy and chilly lows into the upper 20s

Tuesday: Cloudy with a period of snow likely. Mixed snow and rain changing to all snow on Cape Cod and the Islands. Light accumulations possible. Highs in the 30s.
