A former Brookline School Department employee has been charged with aggravated statutory rape involving a juvenile.

Carlos Morales, 29, pleaded not guilty Wednesday and is being held without bail.

Brookline school officials say the alleged incident did not occur on school property. They did not release any other details about the incident.

Morales worked as a paraprofessional with special needs students at two schools. He no longer works for the school district.

The school department said it’s fully cooperating with the criminal investigation.
