7 Ballot Questions Heading To Mass. Legislature

Seven potential ballot questions are heading to the Massachusetts House.

State Secretary William Galvin has certified that all seven received more than the nearly 69,000 required certified signatures.

If lawmakers fail to act on the questions, supporters will have to collect a second, smaller batch of signatures by July to get the initiatives on the November ballot.

The questions include ones that would repeal the state's casino gambling law, raise the minimum wage and expand the bottle deposit law to include sports drinks and other beverages.

Other proposed questions would limit the number of patients assigned to a nurse at one time, require hospitals to be transparent about financial holdings, create a statewide earned sick time policy and repeal a new law linking future hikes in the gas tax to the rate of inflation.
