Sen. Warren, After SOTU: 'We Need To Do More Together'

The plans for the country laid out Tuesday night by President Obama in his State of the Union address are “encouraging” and raising the minimum wage for federal contract workers and expanding access to early childhood education are “important steps,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren said in a statement released early Wednesday morning.

“Even so, we need to do more together to ensure that all of our kids have a chance at a quality, affordable education and real opportunities for success," she said. "I’m committed to working with my colleagues in the Senate to make the kinds of investments in education, research, and infrastructure that help us build a future – not just for some of us, but for all of us."

In a 575-word statement released late Tuesday night, Sen. Edward Markey decried a “war on wages here in America,” called for a restoration of funds to support medical research and tens of thousands of jobs in Massachusetts, criticized Republicans for blocking an unemployment benefits extension, applauded the president’s focus on climate change, high-speed broadband access and clean energy, called for natural gas to be produced “safely and cleanly,” and urged a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines along with expanded background checks.

“I look forward to working with the president and my colleagues in the Senate to move our country forward,” Markey said.
