Disbarred Lawrence Attorney Sentenced For Stealing $1 Million From Clients

A disbarred attorney from Lawrence has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing about $1 million from several clients.

Philip Thompson was also sentenced Thursday to five years of probation and ordered to pay full restitution.

The 35-year-old Thomson had been found guilty after a nine-day trial on Jan. 16 of charges including larceny over $250 from a person over 60.

Prosecutors say Thompson took advantage of the elderly and non-native English speakers in a series of real estate transactions, by failing to pay off loans and failing to give funds to clients to whom he owed money. At least seven clients were cheated, some dating to 2009.

Thompson apologized in court for his "irresponsible conduct and judgments.
