Woman Dies In Cambridge Apartment Fire

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Fire officials say one person has died in a three-alarm blaze at a Cambridge apartment building.

The fire in the three-story home on Prospect Street near Inman Square was reported at about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputy Fire Chief Gerard Mahoney says the woman was in cardiac arrest when she was pulled from the second-floor unit.

She was in her 30s, but her name was not made public.

Firefighters performed CPR at the scene before she was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The cause remains under investigation.

Officials say the home, assessed at more than $500,000, appears to be a total loss.

The Red Cross is assisting six residents left homeless.
