Brockton Student Charged With Raping Classmate

Brockton police say a 16-year-old boy is charged with raping a 14-year girl earlier this month as they walked home from school.

Police say both are eighth-graders at the Oscar F. Raymond Middle School and the alleged attack took place in a wooded area earlier this month.

Lt. Kenneth LeGrice tells The Enterprise for a story Thursday that the suspect faces one count of rape. His name was not made public because of his age.

Police say the alleged rape occurred March 6, but the boy was not arrested until a week later because the girl refused to return to school or speak with authorities.

School Superintendent Kathleen Smith refused to comment on the allegations citing the level of sensitivity with the case and the ages of those involved.
