WALTHAM, Mass. — One of two men suspected in connection to the recent shooting death of a Waltham teen has been arrested in Maine.
Authorities say Taylor Poulin, of Newton, is expected to be arraigned as a fugitive Friday in Portland, Maine. Poulin was arrested in connection to the shooting death of 17-year-old Tyler Zanco, who was co-captain of Waltham’s wrestling team.
Pulin was arrested on Wednesday evening in Windham, Maine by the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and Maine police officials, according to a statement from the Middlesex district attorney’s office.
Poulin was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlicensed possession of a firearm, and conspiracy to violate drug laws in the March 20 shooting, the statement said.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Waltham Police Chief Keith MacPherson are seeking the public’s help in finding 22-year-old Domingo Mendes, of Belmont. Mendes is wanted on murder, gun and drug charges. He is described as black, 5-feet, 10-inches tall and 165 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous.
The Boston Globe reports an arrest warrant affidavit says Zanco was shot when he and two friends allegedly attempted to rob Poulin, believing he’d cheated Zanco’s cousin in a drug deal. Zanco was shot just after 10 p.m. at a Waltham apartment complex on March 20; he was pronounced dead at Newton Wellesley Hospital at 11 p.m.
