Jared Remy Faces New Charge For Assaulting Inmate

Jared Remy, the son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, allegedly assaulted a fellow inmate Thursday at Middlesex County Jail in Cambridge, where he awaits trial.

Remy, 35, of Waltham, is already charged with murder and five other charges related to the death of his girlfriend last August.

After the killing, he left behind the couple's 5-year-old daughter, Arianna, who is currently in custody of the state Department of Children and Families.

Remy now faces an additional charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and was moved to an isolated area of the jail, following his alleged attack on a fellow pretrial detainee.

Remy will be arraigned on the new charge on April 24, in Cambridge District Court.
