Rockland Man Arrested For 3-Alarm Fire In Weymouth

Police say a Rockland man is under arrest in hospital on suspicion of starting a three-alarm fire at an adult store that also hit homes and other businesses in Weymouth.

Officers responding to the Saturday morning fire say a witness reported seeing a man start the fire and directed police to the suspect who was fleeing the scene.

Police arrested 44-year-old Jon Fernald a short distance away. He had severe burns and was taken to South Shore Hospital before being transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Police say Fernald is charged with arson of a dwelling. It was not immediately clear if he has legal representation.

Tenants at the apartment got out safely and firefighters were not injured.

Authorities did not release additional information, including what could have motivated the suspect.
