BOSTON Cold air rushed into the region overnight with a coating of snow in many places. The roads are warm and most areas are not seeing icy conditions. The wind is going to make it feel cold all day as high temperatures barely make it out of the 30s for more than a few hours. This afternoon readings in Boston will be about 43 or 44.
There will be plenty of bright sunshine and any snow is going to disappear rapidly from the strong April solar rays.
A very cold night is on tap with readings falling to the 20s in many areas by Thursday morning. Some of you have asked about plants in this cold. Any plants you may have moved outside from your house should be put back in tonight and tomorrow night. Those plants which have come up on their own out of the ground will be fine in the cold. Pansies, which many people plant this time of year are also good down to about 26 degrees.
Tomorrow and Friday will be coolest at the coast and milder inland. Boston will see readings in the middle to upper 40s but west of Route 128 it will be closer to 50. By Saturday there are more clouds in the forecast and a chance of showers. It won’t be a washout as most of the day will be dry. Highs over the weekend will be 55 to 60 with the most sunshine on Sunday. Monday continues to be dry and seasonable for the marathon and any other Patriots’ Day activities.
Wednesday: Blustery with clearing skies and increasing sunshine. Highs in the lower to middle 40s.
Wednesday night: Clear and cold. Lows in the mid 20s in the coldest spots inland to 32 in Boston.
Thursday: Sunny and continued cold. Highs of 42 to 46 along the coast and 46 to 50 inland.
Friday: Mostly sunny. Still chilly along the coast. Highs in the 40s at the coast and lower 50s inland.
Saturday: Lots of clouds with a few showers possible but not a washout. Highs in the lower and middle 50s.
Sunday: Partly sunny with highs in the mid 50s.
Monday: Partly sunny with a high around 60. Temperatures at 7 a.m. in Hopkinton will be about 40.
