Coakley To Pay State $11,000 For Campaign Costs

Attorney General Martha Coakley's campaign says it's reimbursing the state nearly $11,000 in gas and mileage expenses related to her political campaigns dating back to Coakley's 2010 re-election bid.

A campaign spokeswoman told the Boston Globe Wednesday that the reimbursement includes interest payments for gas and mileage expenses from 2010, 2011 and 2012.

As the state's top law enforcement official, Coakley travels with a state trooper in a state police vehicle as part of a security detail.

The campaign aide said Tuesday that the campaign and the attorney general's office agreed last year to reimburse the state once before the end of the fiscal year in June, and again at the end of the campaign.

When questions arose, the campaign said the decision was made to make the payment sooner.

Coakley is one of five Democrats running for governor.
