Logan Fire Drill Spreads On Social Media

BOSTON — Reports of a plane ablaze at Boston’s Logan International Airport turned out to be nothing but a training exercise for firefighters.

An airport spokesman said the exercise Wednesday morning that created a stir on social media was held in the same place as all fire training exercises, which are “almost a daily occurrence” between April and October.

Matthew Brelis says the airport trains firefighters from airports across the northeast using a fake aircraft fuselage.

Andrew Zimmern of Travel Channel’s “Bizarre Foods America” tweeted “Am I alone seeing a plane on fire on Tarmac at Logan in Boston?” and later “Scary at Logan. Plane engulfed in flames (at) Delta Terminal – Logan International Airport.”

Zimmern has more than 700,000 followers, perhaps explaining why the news spread so fast.
