Lynn Children Suffer Burns In Tub

LYNN, Mass. — Authorities say two young children from Lynn were flown to a Boston hospital after getting severely scalded by hot bathtub water.

The brothers are 3 years and 18 months old.

District Fire Chief Stephen Archer said the 18-month-old child had burns over 50 percent of its body, and the 3-year-old boy had burns over 80 percent of his body.

They were flown from Lynn English High School to Massachusetts General Hospital at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.

An adult male was home with them at the time.

No names were released and the circumstances remain under investigation.

When I was very little, my father accidentally ran a tub without adding cold water. He lifted me high in the air to make my taking the bath more play-like, and when my body hit the water I screamed. He felt HORRIBLE over his mistake. More details in the Globe make this look like a terrible accident. The young male babysitter needs support and counseling. He did NOT leave the children in a tub with water… the 3 year old turned on the hot tap while the babysitter was discretely using a second bathroom for himself. I hope the facts remove any need to prosecute the babysitter.
