3 More Die From Suspected Overdoses In Worcester

Worcester police are trying to find the sources of deadly drugs after three more people died from suspected overdoses this week.

City officials told The Telegram & Gazette that the three suspected overdoses on Tuesday pushed the number of drug-related deaths in the city this month to eight.

The bodies of three men who police believe died from overdoses were found in an apartment in the city Monday.

Authorities say the city is on track for more than 500 drug overdoses this year. Massachusetts and other states have been battling an increase in heroin overdoses and opioid addiction. Gov. Deval Patrick has declared the epidemic a public health emergency.

Worcester Police Chief Gary Gemme says significant resources are being devoted to finding the deadly drugs and their sources.
