Driver Arraigned In Connection With MBTA Bus Crash

A Franklin man authorities say was under the influence of drugs when his car veered into the path of an MBTA bus causing an accident that injured 18 people has pleaded not guilty.

Stephen Griswold was held on $5,000 bail after pleading not guilty Wednesday in Quincy District Court to drugged driving, driving to endanger and a lanes violation.

Griswold told investigators he had taken hydrocodone, penicillin and Motrin after having wisdom teeth removed hours before Tuesday morning's crash in Randolph. He says he blacked out just before impact.

Seventeen of the 35 passengers on the bus and the driver went to the hospital with back and neck pain. The injuries aren't considered serious.

The Patriot Ledger reports that Griswold's lawyer says his client has "no human faults on record."
