Forecast: Steady Rain To Sweep Area

This period of inclement weather continues Wednesday with a steady rain, especially for southern areas.

Some spots could see up to an inch of rain, which is a much needed shot in the arm for those areas suffering from the past weeks' drought-like conditions.

The clouds and rain will keep the air very cool, with temperatures remaining near 60 degrees. A bit of rain Tuesday took us out of 10th place for the driest September on record. Now, we didn’t get much rain, but it did move us up in the standings.

Wednesday gives us our greatest chance of a steady, widespread rain. The rains will be heaviest south and significant just about everywhere. I expect a half to one inch of rain will fall, though some spots could be on the fringe of that in either direction. The sun will come back out at times on Thursday and Friday, but it won't be until Sunday that the area sees a complete day of sun. Sunday is, however, set to also be a cooler day.

September it was a warm and dry month overall. The first week of the month was so warm the cool spells we had the rest of the month could not overtake the warmth. You know it was dry. October is starting off cool and damp, but it’s a long month and we still have time for some warm weather before the cold really sets in.

Wednesday: Periods of Rain. Rain will be heaviest south of the Mass Pike. Cool with highs only near 60, a bit warmer northwest of Route 495.

Wednesday night: Any rain ends. Cool and remaining cloudy. Lows in the lower 50s.

Thursday: A cloudy start then clearing to some sunny periods especially inland. Quite pleasant. Highs 61-66.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65.

Saturday: Showers likely. Highs in the mid 60s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64.
