Harvard Death Threat Email Does Not Appear Credible

Initial investigations of the death threat emailed Friday night to hundreds of Harvard affiliates have determined that the threat seems to have originated overseas and does not appear to be credible, Harvard University police say in a community advisory.

Harvard police say they and other law enforcement agencies will "continue to investigate and will continue to treat the email very seriously." They are stepping up their presence on campus throughout the weekend.

On Friday, hundreds of students and those affiliated with the university received an emailed death threat. The author of the email threatened to come to the campus Saturday to shoot the email recipients.

The university is urging members of the Harvard community to review public safety guidelines and report anything suspicious to police.

No events or activities have been canceled.
