Cape Cod Brothers Convicted Of Drug Conspiracy

Two brothers from Cape Cod have been convicted of operating an oxycodone distribution scheme that brought hundreds of thousands of pills to the region and netted $5 million in proceeds.

Federal prosecutors announced Friday that 36-year-old Stanley Gonsalves, of Sandwich, and 34-year-old Joshua Gonsalves, of Dennis, were convicted after a monthlong trial of charges including oxycodone trafficking conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 16. They each face a maximum of 20 years in prison.

At trial, witnesses testified that couriers transported oxycodone pills from Florida to New England, first by plane and later by car. Once the pills were brought to numerous area hotels or conspirators' homes and apartments, they were divided into bags of 100 pills and handed over to for sale to the dealer-level customers.
