Boston Man Who Took His Own Life Had Killed Son, DA Says

Boston authorities say they have concluded that a man who took his own life in September was the person responsible for the death of his 6-year-old son two days earlier.

Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley and Police Commissioner William Evans said Tuesday the medical examiner determined that Destin Marcelin died Sept.4 after he was asphyxiated, likely by his 49-year-old father Patrick Marcelin. The medical examiner said the boy was smothered, had pressure applied to his neck or chest, or a combination.

The authorities said Patrick Marcelin committed suicide with a kitchen knife on Sept. 6 when police located him at a friend's apartment and tried to question him.

They said an extensive investigation has concluded he was responsible for the boy's death just before his first day of school.

No charges are being filed.
