Marathon Medal, David Ortiz Bobblehead In New Boston Time Capsule

A century from now, future Bostonians will open a time capsule and find a 2013 Boston Marathon medal, a David Ortiz bobblehead and a Legal Sea Foods menu.

The three items are among 28 objects the Bostonian Society placed into a time capsule in a lion statue that's bound, again, for its perch atop the Old State House.

The statue was removed for restoration earlier this fall, and a 1901 time capsule was discovered inside the lion's head. That time capsule contained newspapers, campaign buttons and other items in "remarkably good" condition.

With the 1901 time capsule opened, the question became: What would go in a new one?

The answer includes: a marathon medal from the year it was attacked; the Red Sox slugger's bobblehead; photos of Mayor Marty Walsh and the late former Mayor Thomas Menino; an iPhone 5; and a box from Mike's Pastry ("with no cannolis, unfortunately"). The list is below.

The Bostonian Society inserted the new time capsule into the base of the statue, "rather than the head," the group said in a statement, "to make it more easily accessible in the future."

It plans to return the restored statue, and another, to their spots on the historic Old State House on Sunday morning, and it said it hopes the new time capsule will be opened in 2114.
