Gov.-Elect Baker To Visit White House Friday

Governor-elect Charlie Baker plans to meet with President Obama at the White House on Friday along with five other incoming governors to discuss ways the Obama administration can work with the new state leaders to improve the economy.

A Baker advisor confirmed the meeting, which will include governors-elect of Alaska, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Obama backed Democrat Martha Coakley in the Massachusetts governor's race, with First Lady Michelle Obama visiting Boston to stump for the attorney general and help her raise money for her campaign against Baker.

Over the past six years, there have been strong ties between the Oval Office and the Corner Office on Beacon Hill, with Gov. Deval Patrick and Obama sharing a friendship.

Baker, a Republican, has sought to showcase his appetite for bipartisanship with his choices of several Democrats for Cabinet posts and chief of staff, but will also come to office at a time when Republicans will take over full control of Congress.
