One Fund Charity Set Up After Marathon Bombing To Close

A charity created to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombings is winding down operations.

One Fund Boston said in a statement Tuesday that it will not accept any more donations after Dec. 15.

The organization's president, Jim Gallagher, said he hopes the city never again has a need for a fund of that nature.

The charity announced in September that it had distributed another $18.5 million to the families of those killed and the injured survivors. That brought to nearly $80 million the total amount given out since two bombs at the Boston Marathon finish line killed three people and injured more than 260 others in April 2013.

The One Fund was created by Gov. Deval Patrick and then-Boston Mayor Thomas Menino in the days after the attack.
