Ex-Gov. William Weld Registers As Lobbyist

Former Republican Gov. William Weld has registered as a State House lobbyist.

Weld is now an attorney in the Boston law firm of Mintz Levin. He represents a number of clients including Wynn Resorts, the Las Vegas company that has won a state license to develop a casino on the Mystic River in Everett.

The Boston Globe reports that Weld is the first former Massachusetts governor in modern times to register as a lobbyist. He indicated in an email to the newspaper that he had no specific plans to lobby at the State House, but thought it was prudent to register just in case.

Incoming Republican Gov. Charlie Baker served in Weld's administration in the 1990s and the former chief executive was a strong supporter of Baker during the recent campaign.
