Dog Finds Human Bone On Plum Island Beach

Authorities are investigating after human bones were found this weekend on Plum Island Beach.

Police said a Newbury man walking his dog found a bone Saturday morning, and investigators with cadaver dogs later found more. Police confirmed Sunday the bones are human.

Bill Barrett told The Boston Globe his chocolate Labrador retriever puppy uncovered what appeared to be a human leg bone in the sand on the Newbury side of the beach, still covered with a sock.

Essex district attorney's spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan told the Globe state and local police are continuing to investigate and will be looking at missing persons cases to try to identify the remains. She said she did not immediately know if the remains are those of a man or a woman.
