Another snow event is on the way for southern New England with large snow totals and cold air. Interestingly the past five days saw the snowiest period in Boston and Worcester with 29.7 and 40.7 inches of snow respectively.

Today is cold and blustery with clouds giving way to sunshine. Highs will reach the teens in most areas to lower 20s across Cape Cod. It will also be cold overnight with lows in the single digits.

Tomorrow is sunny and brighter with highs back in the 20s and while it will still be brisk, winds won’t be as strong as we are seeing today.

The next storm moves into the region late tomorrow night or early Monday morning.

I don’t expect any issue because most of you are home and asleep from watching the Super Bowl. The snow should begin around 2-5 a.m. Monday and create a problem with the morning drive to work. If the forecast holds through tomorrow without many changes, most schools will be closed as well as some businesses.

I'll update the forecast here and on Twitter at @growingwisdom.

The snow ends Monday evening after a foot of snow falls in some areas. There will be a range in totals and I will refine the forecast tomorrow.

Temperatures during the storm will be very cold, especially west of Route 128 where it could be in the single numbers much of the storm. Tuesday brings back a return to sunshine, but very cold readings. A moderating trend in temperatures will occur Wednesday with many of us seeing highs above freezing.

  • Today: Clearing and windy. Highs 14-19. 20s on the Cape.
  • Tonight: Mostly clear. Wind chill below zero. Lows 5-15.

  • Sunday Night: Snow developing, with an inch or two accumulating by morning.
  • Monday: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Highs 15-25. Mildest south of Boston.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, very cold. Highs in the teens.
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high 32-36.
