Fire Damages Canton Offices Of Norfolk District Attorney

A natural gas explosion fire officials say was triggered by falling ice has damaged the main offices of Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey.

Canton fire officials said the blaze broke out just before 2 a.m. Sunday in a gas meter line outside the three-story building that also houses a private company. The fire mostly affected the exterior, where there was a partial wall collapse. There also was heavy water damage inside. The building has been declared structurally unsound.

Morrissey's spokesman said no vital work materials are stored in the area that appears most affected.

Alternate work space is being sought for employees. Many of the prosecutor's staffers already work at the county's five district courts.

Morrissey and staff members came to the fire scene. The state fire marshal's office also is investigating.
