Police: Lowell Woman Critically Injured By Shots Fired Into Home

The Middlesex district attorney says a Lowell woman has been shot and critically wounded when someone fired shots into her home as she lay in bed.

District Attorney Marian Ryan said the 38-year-old victim was in critical condition Sunday afternoon after undergoing surgery at Boston Medical Center.

Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent William Taylor say it appears the Lakeview Avenue home was deliberately targeted, but they don't believe the woman was the intended victim.

Police found the woman at about 6:10 a.m. No one else in the home was hurt, including a 1-year-old child.

Outside the house, police found 19 shell casings, apparently fired from two guns.
