Forecast: Milder Air Today Won't Last As Boston May See Up To 2 Inches Snow Thursday

Today, we will see cloudy skies, but temperatures will be milder than we have seen in quite some time. After a period of snow, sleet and rain overnight, we are in a lull of sorts for the daylight hours.

Enjoy the above freezing readings and clear any slush before it refreezes overnight into Thursday morning.

Temperatures are going to get into the lower 40s today, and this is the first time we have seen readings hit higher than 40 degrees since a rain event back in mid-January. The mild weather isn’t going to last, however. Already colder air is building west of New England, and this air will slip east into the region later tonight and Thursday.

There is another storm that’s going to ride south along a front late tonight and Thursday. This will bring a significant snow event to New Jersey and parts of New York tonight and Thursday. This will impact travel into the metro New York airports Thursday.

In southern New England, areas across the south coast will see 2 to 5 inches of new snow late tonight through the first half of Thursday. In Boston, a coating to perhaps 2 inches is possible, but it will depend on the exact track of the storm and the snow shield’s extent to the north.

As this system exits the area, clearing will take place and cold and dry air will follow. There will be a moderating trend in temperatures this weekend with highs reaching the upper 30s and more melting takes place.

This weekend will be a great one to enjoy winter sports activities, and without the arctic air, you won’t need to bundle up as much as we all have needed to the past six weeks.
