Ex-Arlington School Aide Charged With Rape Of Teen

A former middle school teaching assistant in Arlington charged with raping a student has been ordered held on $250,000 bail and placed on GPS monitoring.

James Henry Martin III, of Woburn, was arraigned Friday in Cambridge District Court on charges of aggravated rape and abuse of a child and enticement of a child.

Authorities say the 36-year-old Martin met the boy while working at Ottoson Middle School and stayed in contact via social media as the student moved onto high school. Prosecutors allege Martin sexually assaulted the boy in January.

Martin's lawyer says Martin didn't know the boy was under 18 and people on the social media site they used must certify they are at least 18 years old.

Officials say Martin resigned from the middle school job in 2013.
