Forecast: Colder Air Rushing Back; Up To An Inch Of Snow Possible Saturday

When March is over, Wednesday's warmth will likely have been the warmest or one of the warmest days of the entire month.

Colder air is rushing into New England on a strong northwest wind this morning. High temperatures for the day already occurred at midnight with readings stalled in place the rest of the day or even falling a bit later this afternoon.

As high pressure moves across the area overnight it will become very cold for mid-March with lows in the teens. There could even be some upper single numbers in spots if skies stay clear until morning.

Friday starts with a winter cold feeling to the air, but as clouds increase so will the temperatures. Highs Friday should reach seasonal levels, approaching 40 in the afternoon.

An unsettled period of weather this weekend brings mostly periods of rain, however, some snow is possible at the beginning of the precipitation early Saturday morning. There could be a slushy coating of snow up to an inch, with the most likely spots for this to occur north and west of Boston.

Rainy conditions continue much of Saturday, but even if it’s not raining the entire time it will be raw and damp.

While Sunday sees more of a showery period and less steady precipitation, there will still be a lot of clouds and cool temperatures.

Sunshine returns for the start of next week with highs in the low to mid 40s. Very cold air will return by the middle of next week. There’s little doubt, spring is going to arrive in a slow manner this year.

Today: Sunny, steady temperatures in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.

Overnight: Clear and cold, with lows 12-19.

Friday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 40.

Saturday: Early snow or freezing rain possible, then rain. Highs near 40 late in the day.

Sunday: Raw and damp with scattered rain and snow showers. Highs 37-42.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high 40-45.
