Forecast: Sunny And Chilly Friday, With Rain On The Way For Saturday

Thursday's strong winds are now gone, but the cold weather remains. Sunshine will however help boost temperatures well into the 30s to around 40 by 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. This means some additional melting, but it will occur slowly.

While clouds will thicken toward sunset, we will remain precipitation free through Friday night.

If you have plans this evening, expect it to be chilly, but not cold. Lows will fall into the upper 20s, but not until after 3 a.m.

Early Saturday there may be some pockets of freezing rain well inland, especially north and west of Route 495. Even areas east of that could see some freezing rain, also known as glaze, in the early morning hours.

Rain is the primary weather element Saturday, with up to an inch of water. This will be enough to leave puddles on the road, but the snow pack is still really deep and the rain will be absorbed by much of the snow. We won’t lose a lot of snow Saturday, because it won’t be very warm. Highs are only expected to be in the upper 30s to lower 40s. The day will feel raw.

The rain ends Saturday evening, but the weather system continues to spin around moisture into Sunday. By then it will be cold enough for the chance of some snow early Sunday. There could be a coating to an inch or 2 of snow, especially in Essex and northeastern Middlesex counties. I don’t expect Logan Airport to record the necessary 2 inches of snow needed to break the snowiest winter record.

Dry and seasonable weather returns Monday, but it is going to turn much colder again during the middle of next week. Have a great weekend!
