Another Spring Sign: Fenway Park Is Mowed For 1st Time This Year
In a sure sign of spring, Fenway Park groundskeepers are beginning to get the field ready for Opening Day in Boston.
The field was mowed on Wednesday for the first time since November, the Red Sox told WBUR, and David Mellor, the organization's director of grounds, said the next step is to remove insulation from the ballpark's clay.
"And then we'll start fine-tuning and manicuring our clay surfaces — our mounds, our plates, our baselines," he said, adding that groundskeepers would also work on "transitions from the grass edge to the clay edge," as well as painting the Opening Day logo behind home plate.
The Red Sox home opener is April 13, against the Washington Nationals.
