Kane, Madaro Win Special Mass. House Elections

The Massachusetts House of Representatives has two new members.

Republican Hannah Kane won a special election on Tuesday to represent Shrewsbury and Westborough, while Democrat Adrian Madaro won a special election to represent East Boston.

The elections were held to choose successors for ex-lawmakers who joined Gov. Charlie Baker's administration.

According to unofficial results, the 43-year-old Kane garnered 52 percent of the vote to defeat Democrat Jason Palitsch.

She replaces Republican Matthew Beaton, now Baker's Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

The 26-year-old Madaro had an overwhelming 90 percent of the vote to defeat independent Joanne Pomodoro. There was no Republican on the ballot.

Madaro replaces Democrat Carlo Basile, who is now legislative liaison for the Republican governor.
