Box Truck Dangling Off I-93 Southbound Creates Commuter Woes

A truck with its front wheel hanging over the edge of an elevated highway in Boston created major commuter headaches.

The box truck crashed on Interstate 93 southbound in the city's Dorchester neighborhood at about 6 a.m. Thursday, injuring two occupants.

Even after the truck was towed out of the area at about 8:30 a.m., traffic remained backed up in both directions on the busy highway.

State police say two occupants were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

Because the truck was hanging over railway tracks, the MBTA suspended Red Line trolley service between the JFK/UMass and North Quincy stations and was using shuttle buses to move passengers. The Red line service has since been restored.

Commuter rail service on some lines south of Boston was also affected.
