Forecast: Cooler Today With Temps In The 60s

A cooler day is on tap after a spectacular Sunday of weather. Temperatures began to cool off late yesterday as a cold front slipped south along the Maine coastline, into northeastern Massachusetts and then headed west and south.

The air mass now originates from the sea, and there are even low clouds and some fog along the coastline. Temperatures this afternoon will only stay in the 50s at the coast to lower to middle 60s well inland. The best chance of any sunshine will be further west.

It will be dry all day, but right along the water some drizzle is possible. This of course won’t do anything to alleviate the growing drought conditions that will continue to worsen. We are now approaching the 50 percent below average mark for rainfall this year. Most of this has occurred since March 1.

On Tuesday, a cold front will cross the area and bring with it widely scattered showers. Consider yourself fortunate if you do get some rain, as I suspect there will be areas that don’t see a drop.

The dry and sunny weather resumes for the middle of the week and lasts into the weekend. There are proms and graduations taking place this week and except for the chance of showers tomorrow, it will be great weather for taking pictures.

If you have been planting this spring, be sure to give plants adequate water. Don’t underestimate the extent of the dry conditions. We are poised to have one of the driest May’s on record.

Today: Lots of clouds and cool. Highs in the mid to upper 50s at the water to mid 60s inland.

Tonight: Clouds and cool. Lows 48-54.

Tuesday: A few scattered showers. Otherwise dry with clouds. Highs in the 60s.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high 65-70.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high in the lower 70s.
