If the United States hosts the 2024 Summer Olympics, the games will not be held in Boston.

The U.S. Olympic Committee and Boston 2024 organizers announced Monday afternoon they're pulling the plug on the Boston Olympics bid.

The USOC said the bid was "sound" and would have benefited Boston for decades to come, but cited the inability to get public support behind the proposal as the reason for dropping it saying "we are out of time."

David Wallechinsky, president of the International Society of Olympic Historians, joined WBUR's All Things Considered to discuss the end of Boston's bid.

This segment aired on July 27, 2015.
