Forecast: It'll Feel 'Hotter Than Yesterday,' With Temps In 90s And More Humidity

The third day of 90-degree heat in Boston arrived late Wednesday after a feeble sea breeze was replaced by a westerly wind. Low temperatures stayed in the 80s most of the night in Boston before falling back to the 70s.

Today is going to be the most humid day of the past several days. Although the actual temperatures might be a degree or two less hot, it will feel equally hot or hotter than yesterday.

There is a cold front to the west of us this morning. When fronts are in this position, they tend to pull up a lot of moisture ahead of them. In the summer, this means a spike in the humidity. Since there is a frontal system coming towards us, it will create lift in the atmosphere and I expect a line of showers and storms to develop this afternoon over western New England and then move east.

Since there will be so much moisture in the air, any rain that does fall will have a tremendous amount of potential for quick street flooding and possible hail in any thunderstorms.

The good news is once these storms end later tonight we are looking at three nice summer days ahead.

Weekend Forecast:

No matter where you are in New England this weekend the weather should cooperate. Basically, we are looking at sunshine and some clouds, but mainly rain-free days. There is a small piece of energy that could pop a shower Saturday over Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, but generally, even those areas will be dry.

It’s going to be warm this weekend, but the high humidity will be gone. I expect most areas to be in the 80-88 degree range with the warmest readings over interior southern New England and interior Maine and New Hampshire. Along the coast, sea breezes may knock temperatures back a few degrees, especially east of Rockland, Maine and over Cape Cod.

All in all, the first weekend of August will be great for summer activities and vacationers. This is the final weekend when the sun will set in the 8 p.m. hour. We are now losing over 2 minutes of daylight each day.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high in the upper 80s to lower 90s. A line of showers and thunderstorms will develop later in the afternoon. Very humid.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms. Humid. Lows in the 60s.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high in the mid 80s. Turning less humid through the morning and afternoon.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high in the upper 80s.

Sunday: Sunny and continued very warm and slightly more humid. Highs in the upper 80s.
