Westminster Police: Escaped Water Buffalo Is Safely Back With Owner

A water buffalo on the loose for several hours after escaping from a farm exhibit at a central Massachusetts ski area has been found.

Police in the towns of Westminster and Princeton had warned people Sunday morning to be on the lookout and not to approach the animal, named "Bear."

Westminster police said later on their Facebook page Bear was located around 2:30 p.m. The owner corralled him in a field near the intersection of West Princeton and Bolton roads.

Police said Bear appeared to have some porcupine quills in his nose, but is otherwise OK. There were no reports of injuries or property damage from his wanderings.

Bear went missing overnight from the Farm Fresh Festival at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, which also posted a Facebook message saying Bear is "a docile animal."
