Forecast: Last Day Of Summer Already Feels Like Fall

The idea that summer is over can be hard for many of you to grasp. If you asked 100 people in New England what was their favorite season, I think more would say summer than any other time of year.

But, it’s time to come to terms with fall.

The weather this morning is cool and crisp. With the cloud cover, it definitely feels like autumn. Our final day of summer won’t feel very warm, but we’ve had a very warm September thus far with many days falling above seasonal averages.

A storm moving out to sea south of New England is responsible for all the cloud cover. The lack of sunshine will keep it feeling quite cool today, and with a wind off the water, you’ll need a light jacket or sweater, especially if you're in the shade.

Although it could look threatening at times, there won’t be any rain. We need rain badly, but we will likely complete the rest of the month without a drop in most areas. This continues to create issues with water levels. Hopefully, the month of October brings about a more regular pattern of rainfall.

Wednesday is when the autumnal equinox occurs. This is the time when there is roughly equal daylight across the entire globe. This also marks the period when the daylight hours start to become shorter than the nighttime ones. This also means the air will become progressively cooler and cooler for nearly the next four months.

Today: Mostly cloudy, cooler. Highs in the upper 60s.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with lows 45-50.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high in the low to mid 70s.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high in the mid 60s.
