Man Pleads Not Guilty In Overdose Death Of UMass Student

A New Hampshire man has been charged after prosecutors say he sold the heroin that led to the overdose death of a UMass student.

The Republican of Springfield reports Jesse Carrillo, of Derry, pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and distributing heroin Thursday in Hampshire Superior Court.

Eric Sinacori, of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, was found dead in his Amherst apartment October 4, 2013.

Sinacori was an informant for campus police at the time after police agreed not to press drug charges if he cooperated with them. His parents said police should have helped Sinacori get treatment. The university has ended the program.

A lawyer for the 27-year-old Carrillo says he was staying at the treatment facility when he was arrested. Carrillo posted his $25,000 bail and plans to return.
