Weekend Forecast: Cool And Raw; Joaquin Poses No Threat To Area

The official track of Hurricane Joaquin is far enough to the east to pose no threat the U.S. mainland. This means our weekend will be influenced by a high pressure system to the north and smaller low pressure system to the south.

The winds, the clouds and the small amount of rain possible over the next couple of days is unrelated to the hurricane which is over 1,500 miles away from us.

To the north in Canada there is an enormous area of high pressure and to the south there is a low pressure system off Georgia. The difference in pressure between these two systems is bringing the wind to the area Friday morning and this will continue through Saturday.

The persistent fetch of northeasterly winds could bring down a few tree limbs along the coast and this can always cause a few power issues, but these would be very isolated.

Temperatures will be running closer to late October levels and we are actually in record daytime high cool territory. The best and driest weather will be in northern New England this weekend. Here in southern New England the worst weather will be along the south coast and Cape Cod with persistent chance of showers and drizzle. There could be some rain in Boston Friday and early Saturday, but it won’t be a washout.

Friday: Very chilly with rain heaviest south of Boston. Some showers and drizzle to the north. Very breezy to windy. Highs in the 50s.

Saturday: Cloudy, some showers south of Boston. Highs 53-58.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, some sun north of Plymouth and lots of sun in New Hampshire/Maine. Highs in the lowers 60s inland to mid-50s right at the coast.

Monday: Partly to mostly cloudy. Highs 60-67.
