Activists Protest What They Call A Housing Crisis In Boston

Neighborhood organizations say Boston is in the midst of a housing crisis in which landlords are displacing the poor and traditional communities of color.

The Boston Globe reports hundreds gathered Saturday during a protest dubbed the 2015 Right to Remain Boston Assembly & Action, to call for higher wages and cheaper rent.

The event drew groups to Dorchester from almost all of the city's neighborhoods.

Participants marched to an apartment complex as they called on residents to reclaim their neighborhoods.

Along the route, people shared stories of eviction and court battles. They say neighborhoods have been altered by new, upscale developments.

The Right to Remain coalition is asking elected officials to support a just-cause ordinance for evictions. It would eliminate no-fault evictions by landlords and curb their ability to "flip" properties.
