Massachusetts Announces Mortgage Program For Veterans

Massachusetts has taken the wraps off a mortgage program that Gov. Charlie Baker says will make it easier for veterans to purchase their first homes.

Baker announced the "Operation Welcome Home" loan program on Wednesday as Veterans Day was commemorated with parades and other observances around the state.

Under the plan, qualified borrowers can receive up to 100 percent financing on a single-family home or condominium.

The MassHousing agency said it developed the loan program because U.S. Veterans Administration loans had restrictions that made them more difficult to obtain in the Bay State.

Baker said the program will give vets who protected the American dream a chance to live it themselves.

Earlier Wednesday, the governor participated in the annual Statehouse Veterans Day ceremony. Attendees included veterans, active duty military members and Gold Star families.
