Forecast: Very Sunny, Colder And Crisp Day

The crystal clear skies seen early this morning are a strong indicator of the brilliant sunshine we will see all day. It’s colder than Monday. The crisp late autumn air is back, but there isn’t any wind.

High pressure has moved in from the north and brought along with it continental polar air. This is the dry cool stuff that gives us the low humidity warm days in summer and cold and dry conditions in winter. It’s the dominant air mass this time of year.

The clear skies will be ideal for another meteor shower tonight. The Leonids isn’t the best meteor shower of the year, but since there will be ideal viewing conditions, it’s worth a look in your back yard if you are in a dark area. I wouldn’t spend time driving to somewhere dark; it’s just not that brilliant of a show.

Wednesday brings another nice day with slightly milder temperatures, but still very typical for the second half of November. A large storm hitting the plains states with blizzard conditions today, will eventually head up into Canada.

The tail of this storm — the cold front — will slowly sweep through to the Boston area on Thursday night and Friday with a period of showers and some steadier rain. All the models agree significant rain will fall overnight Thursday and early Friday morning. One of the models I use has an average of about three-quarters of an inch of rain for the Boston area. Some places could see twice that amount in some heavier downpours.

The downpours are likely to affect the morning commute on Friday. Afterward, the weekend turns colder and dry once again with abundant sunshine.

Thursday: Cloudy and milder. Late day showers. Highs 54-58.

Friday: Showers in the morning, cloudy in the afternoon. Highs in the 50s.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high in the mid to upper 40s.
